Partnership between GRAU DATA and EASY SOFTWARE AG
The new partnership between the GRAU DATA AG and the EASY SOFTWARE AG makes possible a cost-effective archiving solution with the new product EASY FILELOCK that’s guaranteed to be audit-compliant from the first step to the last.
Schwaebisch Gmünd, Juli 23, 2010. To comply with relevant legislation, many business-relevant data must be inalterably stored according to legal stipulations which differ from one country to another. In the past, this audit-compliant storage has meant that businesses must make cost-intensive investments in specialized hardware. But now the situation has changed! The strategic partnership between GRAU DATA and EASY SOFTWARE AG has resulted in a collaborative product called “EASY FILELOCK,” which provides economical and innovative options for the inalterable storage of data.

As an expression of the intensive collaboration between the two businesses, this collaborative product will be included as a fully integrated solution on the servers that EASY SOFTWARE AG will install in the future. The market’s leader will thus become the only provider of this advanced and forward-looking technology, which makes possible a fully audit-compliant archiving process according to the regulations of GDPdU and GoBS. Businesses can therefore build their entire archiving solution upon existing hardware or hardware from their customary preferred supplier.
With the goal of “Simplifying Compliance,” the partnership promises to deliver a forward-looking technology that makes it drastically simpler for businesses to comply with legal regulations and that can be implemented in an efficiently and effectively designed manner.

GRAU DATA releases OPENARCHIVE.
Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, March 11, 2009. Effective immediately, the GRAU DATA AG will release its OPENARCHIVE archiving software as open source. This high-performance software product is ideal for businesses that need secure, long-term archiving for a large number of files and a constantly growing volume of data.OPENARCHIVE offers nearly all of the functions of ARCHIVEMANAGER archiving software, i.e. GRAU DATA’s license-obligatory product, which is used by more than 160 customers around the world. Scaleable from one terabyte to several petabytes, OPENARCHIVE can readily integrate existing hardware such as RAID systems, Linux servers and/or LTO-based tape libraries.
In addition to the greatest possible data security (because as many copies as desired can be saved locally and/or remotely), the choice of storage media is also entirely free. Whether one opts for a disk storage system, magnetic tapes or a combination of the two, OPENARCHIVE supports the option of a custom-tailored, tiered-storage solution.
The original file structure is preserved, so users can access data in their accustomed manner. And compatibility to existing and future archiving applications such as DMS, e-mail, files, audio, video, PACS and engineering makes OPENARCHIV an open solution with a bright future.
At www.openarchive.net, the software can be downloaded to be used productively as a virtual machine for testing or as source code on the basis of Linux Red Hat or SuSe. The Affero General Public License was chosen as a license model.
GRAU DATA decided in favor of the open-source model for two reasons: on the one hand, to give its customers the greatest security in caring for and further developing the software; and, on the other hand, to achieve worldwide dissemination of OPENARCHIVE.
GRAU ARCHIVEMANAGER replaces the HP File System Extender
Hewlett Packard ceased active sales of the File System Extenders, the OEM product from GRAU DATA on 1 December, 2007.
With over 150 installations throughout the world, the product has proven itself to be a hardware-independent, stable and scalable archiving solution for the Windows and Linux platforms. GRAU DATA will, as a result, increasingly promote the sales of their own product the ARCHIVEMANAGER.
GRAU DATA will migrate existing HP FSE customers over to the ARCHIVEMANAGER. This is an unproblematic task as both products are binary compatible. In August 2008, HP sent the following message to all of their FSE clients.
Sales of the ARCHIVEMANAGER as well as the derivative products will, in future, be carried out via HP C&I as well as qualified ILM sales partners in Europe and the USA.

Subject: Additional HP FSE Support and Migration Options

Dear (FSE Customer),
The end-of-life for the HP File System Extender (FSE) product was announced in December of 2007 with HP support for FSE discontinuing as of December 1st, 2010. As specified in that announcement, HP will support the FSE product as defined below for existing HP FSE software customers with an active FSE service contract: through the end-of-life period.
- Access to HP to place support calls;
- Access to defect fixes as made available by HP. HP will continue to review reported FSE software defects and address critical issues. However, HP will not add new features or new functionality to the FSE software;
- Support renewals that expire before Dec 1 2010 are permitted within the discontinuance period.
Key Points:
- GDS is the Original Equipment Manufacturer of FSE
- GDS ArchiveManager and HP FSE are binary compatible, so GDS ArchiveManager can read all data and metadata written by FSE.
- GRAU has already successfully migrated multiple FSE customers to ArchiveManager in the last few months.
